In honor of his 200th Birthday this year, Lincoln’s boyhood home Spencer County, Ind., has a full year of activities planned to pay tribute to Lincoln’s Legacy. Spencer County, where Lincoln lived from age 7 to 21, is home to Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, Lincoln State Park, Lincoln Amphitheatre, Rockport Pioneer Village, Lincoln Landing, Lincoln Ferry Park and Buffalo Run Farm, all of which offer opportunities to trace Lincoln’s past.

February 9, 2009 - Lincoln Pictorial Postmark
The Lincoln Bicentennial celebration kicks off with a special pictorial postmark available beginning Feb. 9, at the Lincoln City, Ind., Post Office, located inside Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. The design features an image of a young Abraham Lincoln with an axe in hand, reminiscent of his youth spent in Indiana from 1816-1830.

February 12, 2009 - Lincoln’s 200th Birthday Bash Dr. James Madison, professor of history at Indiana University, will be the key note speaker during a Lincoln Day Program in the Abraham Lincoln Hall at Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. Following the program, a pilgrimage to the gravesite of Nancy Hanks Lincoln, President Lincoln's mother, will take place for a wreath laying ceremony. Spencer County also will have several exhibits at the Indiana State House on Feb. 12 as part of the Indiana Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission’s Lincoln Bicentennial Birthday Bash at the State House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST.

June 12,2009 - Lincoln Monument Dedication A new monument to Abraham Lincoln’s Spencer County youth will also be dedicated on June 12 by the Indiana Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission inside Lincoln State Park. Known as the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Plaza, the project consists of a large, bisected circular plaza punctuated with limestone pedestals and interpretive signs signifying key milestones in Lincoln’s formative Indiana years. It also features a larger than life Lincoln bust by sculptor Will Clark of Ft. Wayne, Indiana

June 12 - August 15, 2009
The Lincoln Amphitheatre will debut a new theatrical experience: LINCOLN. Experience the rough and tumble life of the Indiana boy who was to become our nation’s 16th president. The production includes activities for children and adults alike, a scrumptious meal and a performance under the stars in a 1,500 seat amphitheatre located inside Lincoln State Park.

Additional Lincoln Bicentennial Activities planned this year in Spencer County include a Lincoln Funeral Reenactment at the Spencer County Courthouse, Pioneer Days at Rockport Lincoln Pioneer Village, and a Lincoln Bicentennial Jubilee with events to be held at various locations across the county. Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial also will host a Lincoln Speakers Series and Lincoln Film Series during 2009.
